Raise It Up for Youth Literacy: Books, Beats & Big Fun

Families are invited to Ovation Hollywood on Saturday, May 31, for ‘Raise It Up for Youth Literacy’—a free, full-day event packed with storytelling, music, crafts, and hands-on activities designed to inspire a love of reading in the next generation. The event features age-specific programming, fun learning stations, puppet-making, interactive art, and special guests like the Los Angeles Fire Department, who will bring a fire engine for kids to explore. Reading Among Ruins will also donate over 200 books to the Altadena Public Library to help families impacted by recent wildfires in the Pacific Palisades and Altadena communities.

Supported by L.A. City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martinez, Los Angeles City College, the Altadena Public Library, and local businesses like Hard Rock Cafe and Dave & Buster’s, ‘Raise It Up for Youth Literacy’ brings together community resources to create joyful, purpose-driven experiences. The initiative’s ongoing mission is to uplift at-risk communities and foster educational growth, helping young people build a lifelong love of reading through engaging and inclusive programming.

Event Highlights:

  • Storytelling, puppet-making, face painting, bookmark crafts, games, and music
